Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert

Designer

Since 2015

Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert is a designer of men’s and women’s clothing. Inspired by streetwear, his eponymous MARKANTOINE label, which he describes as “gothic/exotic,” presents outfits that are both deconstructed and sophisticated.

His aesthetic blends obscure punk symbols with feminine details like ruffles and sequins, along with neon colours.

The style of his collections is both sombre and playful.

In 2008, Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert left his home town of Shawinigan in the Mauricie region to study in Montreal. He started by taking a technical design program at LaSalle College, then earned a bachelor’s degree from the École supérieure de mode at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM). After graduating, he worked with designer Aline Ochoa for several months in France.

Returning to Montreal in 2015, he launched his own brand, MARKANTOINE, with his associate Alyne Phouthakhanty, who is now simply a shareholder. Alexandre James, Markantoine’s partner, is the brand’s visual director. The duo’s workshop is located on Amherst Street in the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood.

All the clothing is produced in-house, often in only one copy.

The pieces are sold on the brand’s e-commerce Website and occasionally in pop-up shops.

From its start, MARKANTOINE branded clothing has been adopted by numerous Quebec stars, including actress Catherine Brunet and TV hosts Maripier Morin and Pénélope McQuade. The brand’s seasonal fashion shows attract hundreds of people.

Along with developing his label, Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert teaches at LaSalle College and does costume design for film. In addition, he decorated one of the banquet halls for the 2018 Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Annual Ball.
