LaSalle College – International School of Fashion, Arts and Design

Organization

Since 1965

LaSalle College is a private post-secondary educational institution located in Montreal. Offering pre-university and vocational programs, it encompasses five specialized schools, one of which is the International School of Fashion, Arts and Design. This school has two programs of study in the field of fashion that lead to a diploma of college studies (known by its French acronym, DEC): Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing. The school also offers a variety of courses, both in the classroom and online, that lead to an attestation of college studies (French acronym, AEC), notably in Fashion Styling and Fashion Marketing – Buyer’s Profile. As of 2019, about 200 students were registered in the various programs.

Founded in 1959 in LaSalle by businessman Jean-Paul Morin, LaSalle College initially focussed on secretarial training. In 1962, it moved to downtown Montreal, where, in 1966, it launched its first Fashion Marketing program. In 1973, LaSalle College was accredited by the Quebec Ministère de l’Éducation. The same year, the School of Fashion was founded and began offering the three-year DEC in Fashion Design. To keep up with the evolving fashion industry, the curriculum has expanded to offer a variety of paths associated with various trades in the industry. For example, students can now opt for classes specialized in men’s ready-to-wear or costumes for theatre and television.
