Pivoine was a company that designed, produced and sold children’s clothing in the 1980s and 1990s. Primarily made in brightly coloured, easy-care cottons, Pivoine’s reasonably priced collections were ideal for everyday play.
Pivoine was founded in Montreal by designer Agnès Pasaman in 1981. A native of Poland, she had left home at the age of 17 and lived in various European cities before settling in Canada in 1974.
After earning a diploma of college studies in fashion design from Montreal’s LaSalle College in 1978, she moved to Paris for two years to apprentice at Chanel and with menswear couturier Michel Axel.
Upon returning to Canada, she launched her own clothing company for children ages 0 to 10. In addition to clothing, she produced accessories like scarves, hats and headbands. Pivoine sold its collections in its branded boutiques, first on Victoria Street in St. Lambert and Laurier Avenue in Montreal, and then on Park Avenue in Montreal.
