Maranda Girard

Designer

1985 - 2010

Maranda Girard was a women’s clothing brand designed by Josée Maranda and Martin Girard. After graduating from Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, the two designers founded their Sainte-Foy store/studio in 1985 before opening a second store in Baie Saint Paul, in the Charlevoix region, in 1995.

The Maranda Girard brand was known for its personalized, custom-made high-end clothing. The two designers produced their garments exclusively in their studio, along with a staff of two to four employees.

By the late 1990s, Maranda Girard had a loyal clientele of approximately 150 women who would order a new wardrobe each year.

The designers also occasionally produced ready-to-wear collections, notably a maternity line. From 1991 to 1999, the duo created the ball dresses for the Quebec City Winter Carnival duchesses.

Maranda Girard went out of business in 2010. Josée Maranda later joined the team at children’s clothing company Souris Mini, where she has worked as a pattern maker since 2011. Martin Girard returned to his home town of Baie Saint Paul. As of 2018, he was working as an interior designer and owned a furniture and home decor store.
