Founded in 1999 in Montreal by Eran Elfassy and Elisa Dahan, Mackage was initially a brand of high-end outerwear made of leather, down and wool for women. Over the years, it has added collections for men (since 2008) and children (since 2012), as well as a line of handbags (since 2013). Its products are designed in the company’s Chabanel Street offices and manufactured outside the country. As of 2018, they are sold in the brand’s flagship stores in Canada and the United States and at retailers in some 20 countries. Many celebrities wear the brand, including Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, actress Gwyneth Paltrow, singer Madonna and model Kylie Jenner.

Mackage is a division of The APP Group, which also owns the more affordably priced outerwear brand Soia & Kyo. In 2016, a numbered company belonging to American, Korean and Canadian interests purchased a majority of shares in The APP Group. However, the group’s head office is still in Montreal. Since then, the founders have been minority shareholders.
