Hugh Garber

Hugh Garber studied at the Hornsey College of Art in England and at the Fashion Arts Academy in Montreal. In 1966, he went to Italy for two years, working first as an assistant for Patrick de Barentzen, and then as a designer for Roberto Capucci. He returned to Montreal in 1968 to put his design talents to use for manufacturer Margo Dress, where he stayed until the 1970s when he moved to Toronto. He was one of the founding members of the Fashion Designers Association of Canada in 1974 and participated in Montréal Mode’s promotional events in the 1970s. In the 1980s, he began designing uniforms. In 1983, he left the fashion industry entirely to open a restaurant in Toronto; he later became an interior designer.
