Tavãn & Mitto is a Montreal brand of high-end women’s fashion, offering everything from  coats to suits to evening gowns. Although now focussed primarily on made-to-measure, the brand also creates capsule collections of timeless pieces at affordable luxury price points that could work for men too, thanks to their unisex aesthetic.

Payam Tavãn and Mike Mitto are the designers, couturiers and owners behind the brand, designing and producing each piece themselves. The former studied fashion at the Domus Academy of Milan before working at Gianfranco Ferré, while the latter trained at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and then joined Chanel.

The duo founded Tavãn & Mitto in 1995, operating by appointment only for private clients.

In 2002, the brand brought out its first seasonal collection, following this with the opening of its first atelier on Montreal’s Esplanade Avenue in 2003. At one point, the Tavãn & Mitto label was being sold in 60 stores across Canada and in Europe. In 2005, the duo opened its flagship store on St. Lawrence Boulevard, which remained in operation until 2018.

In addition to creating their own collections, Payam Tavãn and Mike Mitto have collaborated on a variety of one-off projects. For example, they designed an exclusive collection for La Maison Simons and created bespoke costumes for dancers and musicians touring with singer Céline Dion in 2009 and 2011.

In 2015, Tavãn & Mitto stopped making seasonal ready-to-wear to refocus on made-to-measure and capsule collections.
