The Ardene company was founded in 1982 in Montreal by Arden Dervishian. The first store opened in Carrefour Laval and specialized in low-cost trendy accessories and jewellery aimed primarily at teens. Ardene maintained this approach until 2004 when it began to add “fast-fashion” clothing and footwear to its product line and significantly increased the square footage of its stores. As of 2018, the company has over 400 stores across Canada, plus stores in the United States and the Middle East. According to newspaper Les Affaires, Ardene ranks 142nd on the list of Quebec’s 500 largest companies.
