The Montreal Fashion Bureau was founded in 2009 by the City of Montreal with the financial support of the Québec government. Its mission was to promote Montreal as a fashion design hub, emphasizing its local expertise, creative potential and capacity to innovate. It promoted the branding of Montreal fashion and development of a strong local market. Amongst its projects were its Website, ModeMontréalTV, which included the interactive Montreal Fashion Map, a calendar of all the fashion-related events and activities in Montreal. It was a financial partner in many events, including Montreal Fashion Week, the Festival Mode et Design, and the Fur Council of Canada’s NAFFEM trade show.
Following the 2015 founding of mmode, the Metropolitan Fashion Cluster funded by the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal and the Québec government, the Montreal Fashion Bureau ceased its promotional activities for the industry in 2016. The City of Montreal nonetheless continues to recognize fashion as an important economic and creative sector and supports targeted projects and partnerships in entrepreneurship and innovation.
