The Centre de formation et de consultation en métiers d’art du Cégep Limoilou (CFCMA) was created in 1984 to help implement the Quebec government’s national training plan in the applied arts and crafts sector.

Its mandate is to serve as a link between the College and the six schools that provide hands-on training in violin/guitar making, fine woodworking, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery and textile construction.

The jewellery and textile construction specializations are offered by the École de joaillerie de Québec and the Maison des métiers d’arts de Québec, respectively.

Students in the jewellery program learn to transform metals, create limited series or unique jewellery, and preserve and repair existing pieces. The textile construction program focusses on producing and dyeing various types of fabric using both artisanal and technology-based techniques.

Students registered in the three-year technical program in applied arts and craft take their general education classes at Cégep Limoilou, and the hands-on workshops in the specialized schools. The CFCMA welcomes around 200 students each year, including 15 or so in textile construction and about 30 in jewellery.
