The Academy of Arts and Design is a division of the Teccart Institute, a private college with campuses in Montreal, Brossard and Longueuil. It offers programs in fashion design, fashion marketing, interior design, advertising design and 3D animation design that lead to an attestation of college studies (known by its French initialism, AEC).
The school was incorporated as the International Academy of Design in 1981 and was recognized by the Ministry of Education in 1987. In the early 2000s, approximately 650 students attended the Academy, which was located in downtown Montreal on McGill College Avenue. Serge Landry was the Director General and owner.
In 2007, the Academy of Arts and Design went bankrupt. The school closed down in early July, jeopardizing the summer session of the 200 students enrolled. In late August, the Teccart Institute announced that it had purchased the Academy and would incorporate it into the programming offered at its Brossard campus. As of 2019, there were 20 or so students registered in the school’s fashion program.
