ESG-UQAM École supérieure de mode

The ESG-UQAM École supérieure de mode (ESM) is a Montreal educational institution that offers an undergraduate university program in fashion design and management. It is the product of collaboration between various departments and faculties, notably management, arts, design, and communications.

Created in 1995 thanks to a partnership between Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and the LaSalle College Group, which already offered a CÉGEP-level program in fashion, the ESM was originally called the École supérieure de mode de Montréal and was run by Michèle Boulanger-Bussière and Nathalie Langevin. Two years later, the school became part of the UQAM School of Management (École des sciences de la gestion, or ESG), although it maintained its partnership with the College until 2009.

For the ESM’s first 20 years, classes were held in a space operated by LaSalle College. In 2015, they were moved closer to the main UQAM campus, into an historic building at 280 St. Catherine Street East. This edifice was completely remodelled to accommodate the new classes as well as design studios and specialized equipment.

As of 2019, the ESM had about 500 students, studying one of four different options in the field of fashion: marketing, production, design and culture.
