Centre design et impression textile

The mission of the Centre design et impression textile is to offer a variety of classes to transmit knowledge and expertise associated with designing and printing textiles. While the courses are aimed primarily at students enrolled in the Cégep du Vieux Montréal applied arts and crafts program, they are also open to creative textile professionals and members of the public.

Cirque du Soleil has run its fabric printing studio out of the Centre design et impression textile.

The Centre was founded in 1985 by textile designers Robert Lamarre and Monique Beauregard, owners of the SÉRI+ studio on Notre Dame Street East in Montreal. In 1988, they moved the Centre’s activities to 4710 St. Ambroise Street in the St. Henri district. The partnership with Cégep du Vieux Montréal began the following year with the goal of introducing students to both handmade, artisanal work and computer-assisted production methods.

Year in and year out, the three-year program attracts 35 to 45 students. In 2007, the Centre also started welcoming approximately 20 design students from the ESG-UQÀM École supérieure de mode to its “Creative approach to textiles” class.

The Centre design et impression textile houses various studios for silk-screen printing, computer-aided textile design, sewing and dyeing. In addition, there is an exhibition space for displaying the work of students and professional artisans.
