Martine Lemieux is a Montreal designer whose ready-to-wear women’s clothing brand Junk was sold from 1991 to 1997. Inspired by the West Coast fitness craze, the designer created form-fitting garments made primarily of stretchy synthetic fabrics. The pieces featured simple lines, were easy to maintain, and affordable.
Graduating from Cégep Marie-Victorin in fashion at the age of 19, Martine Lemieux began her career in fashion in 1990 working as a stylist in Los Angeles. Returning to Montreal the following year, she created her first pants collection for the boutique Mousseline. The same year, she founded Junk, a brand that was soon sold in dozens of stores across Canada.
Junk ceased operations in 1997. Martine Lemieux later worked for several Quebec fashion companies and designers, including Jacob, RUDSAK, Reitmans and Denis Gagnon.
